Sarah Devroe, MD, PhD – UZ Leuven
Sarah Devroe, MD, PhD, is a Consultant Anaesthetist at UZ Leuven and part of the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences at KU Leuven, Belgium. Since 2003, she has specialized in obstetric and paediatric anesthesia, with a particular focus on the effects of anesthesia on the developing brain. Dr. Devroe has published extensively and lectured at national and international conferences. She recently completed her PhD on new anesthetic strategies for pediatric and fetal interventions aimed at improving hemodynamic stability and neurocognitive outcomes.

Thomas Fuchs-Buder, MD – CHU Nancy
Thomas Fuchs-Buder, MD, is Professor of Anaesthesia and Critical Care at the University Hospital of Nancy, France, where he also serves as Director of the Operating Room Department. With a clinical and academic background spanning Switzerland, Germany, and France, he is an expert in the pharmacology and physiology of neuromuscular transmission. Dr. Fuchs-Buder has authored around 150 scientific publications and contributed to key guidelines, including the ESAIC’s recommendations on perioperative neuromuscular blockade. He is the author of the “Neuromuscular Monitoring” chapter in Miller’s Anesthesia and held editorial and leadership roles within the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, including Chair of the Research Committee and current Chair of the NMBM-Net research group.

Patricia Lavand’homme, MD, PhD – UCL Saint-Luc
Prof. Dr. Patricia Lavand’homme is a consultant anaesthetist and pain specialist at the Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc (CUSL) in Brussels, Belgium. She is affiliated with the Department of Anaesthesiology and the Acute Postoperative Pain Service at CUSL, where she also serves as the director of the Transitional Pain Clinic. Her clinical expertise encompasses general anaesthesia, obstetric anaesthesia, and pain management. Prof. Lavand’homme has contributed significantly to research in perioperative pain management and chronic postsurgical pain. She has authored numerous publications in these areas and is actively involved in European collaborative projects focused on pain relief and anaesthesia.

Natalia Magasich-Airola, MD, PhD – UCL Saint-Luc
Dr. Natalia Magasich-Airola is a consultant anaesthetist at Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc (CUSL) in Brussels, Belgium. She holds both an MD and a PhD. Dr. Magasich-Airola specializes in paediatric anaesthesia and preoperative assessment, particularly for children undergoing complex surgeries such as liver transplants. Her research interests include anaesthesia for high-risk paediatric procedures and strategies to reduce the carbon footprint of anaesthesia and operating rooms. She has contributed to multiple peer-reviewed publications and is actively involved in sustainability initiatives within anaesthesia practice.

Paul McConnell, MD – RAH
Dr. Paul McConnell is a consultant anaesthetist at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Scotland, with a special interest in ethics, consent, and perioperative care. In addition to his medical qualifications, he holds a Master’s degree in Healthcare Law and Ethics from the University of Manchester. He has served two terms as Chair of the ESAIC Scientific Ethics Committee and is currently a member of both the ESAIC Sustainability Committee and End of Life Care guidance task force. Dr. McConnell also contributes to several national committees, including the Royal College of Anaesthetists’ Ethics Committee and the Scottish Peri-Operative Medicine Society, where he serves as QI Lead. He was part of the team awarded the Humphry Davy Medal for contributions to ethics and safeguarding in anaesthesia. His clinical interests include supported decision-making, depth of anaesthesia, delirium, and pre-optimisation. His hospital serves as the UK pilot site for the Safe Brain Initiative.

Patrick Meybohm, MD, PhD – UKW
Prof. Dr. med. Patrick Meybohm is Head of the Department of Anaesthesiology, Intensive Care, Emergency and Pain Medicine at the University Hospital Würzburg, Germany. He completed his medical studies and doctorate at Georg-August University in Göttingen and received further training in anesthesiology and intensive care at the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein. After academic roles in Kiel and Frankfurt, he took on his current position in 2020. His research focuses on intensive care, perioperative outcomes, preoperative optimisation of high-risk patients, and patient blood management. Prof. Meybohm has authored over 500 scientific publications and leads multiple clinical trials, with many of his works receiving prestigious awards.

Frederic Michard, MD, PhD
Dr. Frédéric Michard, MD, PhD, is a critical care specialist renowned for his contributions to hemodynamic monitoring and digital health innovation. Trained in Paris and at Massachusetts General Hospital (Harvard Medical School), he co-developed Pulse Pressure Variation (PPV), a key parameter in fluid responsiveness assessment now widely used in clinical practice. As a former Vice President of Global Medical Strategy at Edwards Lifesciences, he played a pivotal role in advancing individualized fluid management. In 2016, he founded MiCo, a Swiss-based consulting and research firm specializing in digital health, AI-enabled monitoring, and wearable technologies.

Mona Momeni, MD, PhD – UCL Saint-Luc
Prof. Mona Momeni, MD, PhD, is Deputy Head of the Department of Anesthesiology at Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc and Clinical Professor at UCLouvain in Brussels. She specializes in cardiothoracic and vascular anesthesia for both pediatric and adult patients, particularly those with congenital heart disease. Her expertise includes transesophageal echocardiography and anesthesia for high-risk non-cardiac surgeries in patients with congenital heart conditions. Prof. Momeni has authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications, led several multicenter studies, and serves as a reviewer and editor for various anesthesiology journals. She holds leadership roles in professional societies, including Chair of the Congenital Subcommittee of EACTAIC and Council Member for Belgium at ESAIC.

Aisling Ní Eochagáin, MD – MMUH
Dr. Aisling Ní Eochagáin, MD is a Consultant Anaesthesiologist and Assistant Clinical Professor at Mater Misericordiae University Hospital (MMUH) in Dublin, Ireland. She completed the National Anaesthesiology Training Programme and holds multiple postgraduate qualifications in medical science, law, and economics. Her clinical and research interests focus on regional anaesthesia, opioid-free anaesthesia, and perioperative care, with a particular emphasis on erector spinae plane blocks and enhanced recovery protocols. Dr. Ní Eochagáin has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and is actively involved in international collaborations, including the EuroPeriscope Onco-Anaesthesiology Research Group and the Outcomes Research Consortium.

Tine Opsomer, MD – VUB
Dr. Tine Opsomer, MD is an attending anesthesiologist at UZ Brussel (University Hospital Brussels), affiliated with the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Her clinical expertise encompasses abdominal and thoracic anesthesia, and she is actively engaged in research on perioperative care and anesthesia safety. Dr. Opsomer has co-authored peer-reviewed studies on topics such as locoregional anesthesia in patients with Brugada syndrome and the impact of fatigue on anesthesia providers. She is also involved in academic teaching and contributes to the advancement of anesthesiology practice through both clinical and scholarly work.

Jasper Stijns, MD – UZ Brussel
Dr. Jasper Stijns is a colorectal surgeon at UZ Brussel (University Hospital Brussels) and affiliated with the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). He obtained his medical degree from KU Leuven in 2012, followed by surgical training at the Europaziekenhuizen in Brussels, ETZ Tilburg, and UZ Leuven. In 2018, he completed his specialization in general surgery at KU Leuven and subsequently pursued a two-year fellowship in colorectal surgery at UZ Leuven, earning a subspecialty certification in abdominal surgery in 2019. His clinical expertise includes the treatment of colon and rectal cancer, proctology, pelvic floor surgery, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) surgery, and minimally invasive and transanal colorectal procedures. Dr. Stijns is actively involved in clinical research and is a member of the European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP).

Griet Vandenberghe, MD, PhD – UZ Gent
Dr. Griet Vandenberghe, MD, PhD, is a Belgian gynecologist specializing in high-risk obstetrics. She has been affiliated with Universitair Ziekenhuis Gent (UZ Gent) since 2010, where she combines clinical practice with impactful research. Dr. Vandenberghe earned her PhD in 2018 with the thesis “The point of surveying severe maternal morbidity: the Belgian Obstetric Surveillance System.” She is the Principal Investigator (PI) of B.OSS (Belgian Obstetric Surveillance System), a key initiative for monitoring and improving maternal health outcomes in Belgium. Additionally, she leads BAMM (Belgian Analysis System for Maternal Mortality), focusing on reducing maternal mortality. Her research and clinical work aim to enhance healthcare systems and practices to address severe maternal morbidity and mortality.

Francis Veyckemans, MD – CHU Lille
Dr. Francis Veyckemans is a retired pediatric anesthesiologist and honorary professor at UCLouvain Medical School in Belgium. He previously served as the head of the Division of Pediatric Anesthesia at Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc in Brussels from 1984 to 2016. Since 2016, he has been working as a staff anesthesiologist at the Hôpital Jeanne de Flandre, the Mother-Child hospital of the CHU of Lille in France. Dr. Veyckemans has authored several textbooks on pediatric anesthesia and regional anesthesia, focusing on rare pediatric diseases and pediatric pain management. He has also been involved in various research projects, including the APRICOT study, aimed at improving anesthesia practices in children.

Kris C. P. Vissers, MD, PhD – Radboudumc
Professor Dr. Kris C. P. Vissers, MD, PhD, FIPP, is an accredited anesthesiologist, pain specialist, and consultant in palliative care. He serves as a professor in Pain and Palliative Medicine and the chairman of the Radboud Expertise Center of Pain and Palliative Medicine at Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre (Radboudumc) in the Netherlands. Since 2005, he has been a professor at Radboudumc, where his research program focuses on improving the quality of life for vulnerable patients. Dr. Vissers has held leadership positions in various international organizations, including serving as the first chairman of the Dutch Society of Multidisciplinary Palliative Care Professionals and past president of the World Institute of Pain. His main research interests include neuropathic pain, oncology, palliative sedation, and eHealth in palliative care. He has authored over 330 publications and contributed to more than 20 textbooks, and has supervised 40 PhD candidates to completion.
